Palak Sahu, B.Tech - Computer Science, Class of 2024 elaborates on her experience of continuing classes online due to the pandemic

Jan 18, 2020

The year 2020 has been full of unexpected events. On the one hand, I was happy about finally graduating from high school and on the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic situation took a toll on almost every aspect of life. Everything was put on hold, exams were delayed, parents were anxious about letting us leave home and join a college campus. This situation led to a lot of delays and before I knew it, almost all my target colleges (except NIIT University) were closed for admissions. NIIT University’s admission process was still on and I was more than happy to apply for the B.Tech program here. I had researched about the university online and also spoke with some faculty members and the administrative department, both of whom very helpful in guiding me.

Having applied late, I missed the online orientation program but it has been a great journey since joining. The faculty has been enthusiastic in keeping our spirits and interest levels high through combining interesting teaching tools and techniques that make learning online relatable online, with a positive attitude. For example, one of our teachers, Gurendra Nath Sir actually used two cameras to show us a live demonstration of graphs. This really clarified our understanding of the topic. The University and its faculty have spared no effort in making this transition to online as smooth as possible.

Besides online classroom sessions through the NU Learning Portal, we are using google meet and zoom calls for various projects and assignments given by the University like Nano EPL, Machine Learning, and IoT. The University has even managed to move examinations online seamlessly with exam portal ‘Moodle’. All this combines to ensure that our education is not hampered in any way.

It seems like only yesterday that I started my exciting journey at NIIT University. It seems almost strange that in just a few months, we will be seniors to the incoming batch in 2021! I am looking forward to this new role and want to tell any prospective applicants that we will always be supportive and help you in your academics and social interaction as will the teachers here who are the best part of the University. Hopefully, all this will happen on campus and face to face.
