“No matter how much you prepare you can’t be ready for all the challenges of an internship. You have to keep learning and improvising along the way. My role as Data Science intern gave me responsibilities that different projects demanded,” says Archana Gujar, student of NIIT University, who is currently doing her Industry Practice with Thoucentric Technology Pvt. Ltd. We find out how she is getting crucial real-life industry experiences working with the niche management consulting firm that offers technology and process solutions to businesses.

The BTech Electronics & Communication Engineering student is excited to have the opportunity to intern in the cutting-edge field of Data Science and Analytics. Archana also admits that it would not have been possible without the help of CIC representatives at NIIT University. “Many companies ask for CSE students but being from ECE department, I wasn’t able to get those interviews. CIC representatives specifically contacted companies and made sure that people like me get the equal opportunities in CSE field,” she says filled with gratitude.

It began the four-step selection process for Thoucentric Technology Pvt. Ltd. Archana informs us that the first two rounds of aptitude tests included logical and arithmetic, and technical questions that covered computer science concepts like data structure, algorithms, databases, OS. “The third round was a coding test in which we had to solve certain number of questions in limited amount of time. Final test was the interview round, both technical and HR,” she recollects. Her reward was an exciting internship that is also bringing her a stipend of Rs. 30,000 per month.

Archana describes her day to day work responsibilities that include writing code. Besides developing her own logic, she has to ensure that she handles this responsibility efficiently and quickly. “I love the challenge of these tasks because they make me think on my feet. The responsibilities and my response to them, has to be adapted according to the demands of the project. I have been able to fulfill them under the guidance and mentorship provided by the different experts working in Thoucentric,” she says.

The experiences have gone a long way in not only helping Archana improve her programming skills but her team working abilities as well. Her grooming into a confident professional of tomorrow is now complete. “We as interns in Thoucentric are treated no less than employees, we are given equal responsibilities as well as opportunities. The company follows flat hierarchical system, which makes it very easy to reach out to people, communicate and seek help from each other,” she says as professional raring to go.
