Integrated MBA student Abhijeet Singh lucks out at NIIT University during the lockdown

Jan 25, 2020

Abhijeet Singh had experienced college life for a few months the previous year before dropping out to pursue his dreams. With a keen interest in the business world, he chose the Integrated MBA program at NIIT University. “It offered me the courses of my choice and also the opportunity to complete my higher education in four years,” he reveals. But there was another twist in the story. Last year was marred by the global pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. Has it been a case of second time lucky for Abhijeet? We find out in this freewheeling chat.

Choosing the management program was Abhijeet’s way of securing his future. With a lot at stake on the decision of choosing the right college, the aspirant from Lucknow left no stone unturned during the research about his prospects. He reveals that he went through several reviews and was heartened by the positive feedback he received from a friend. “The university also gave us various virtual tours of the campus and the academic life at NU. As the program began, I experienced the diversity firsthand interacting with students from various states,” he says.

Unlike most of his batch mates, Abhijeet already had a taste of campus life. But things were different now as NIIT University had transitioned to virtual classrooms. Did he notice a major difference in the experience? “Not really because the classes were interactive and there was always two way communication. Things never got boring because faculty members introduced topics through solid facts and figures. The university created a dedicated learning portal where we get links to study resources, exams, our class schedules, all on one platform,” he says.

Abhijeet recounts the experience of Business Analytics course delivered by Prof. Gyanesh Jain. He remembers how evaluation through quizzes was a unique and engaging learning experience. There were many other measures taken to help students integrate into college life. “We are bonding with our batch mates and seniors through social media. Club meetings, cluster meetings, and house meetings have brought us closer. Diwali celebration happened virtually too but the experience and sense of camaraderie we experienced was real,” he adds emotionally.

From the course material being readily available to supportive faculty members quick to respond to queries, Abhijeet believes that he has lucked out this time around, in spite of the lockdown.
