PhD in Bioinformatics / Biotechnology

The NIIT University PhD programs in Bioinformatics and Biotechnology foster development in multidisciplinary research at the interface between the life sciences and computer science. They enable students to bridge the gap that exists between these disciplines because of differences in perspective, methodology and vocabulary.

According to Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the global bioinformatics industry clocked an estimated turnover of $2 billion in 2000 and is expected to become $60 billion by 2009. India possesses a huge knowledge base in Biotechnology and coupled with skilled manpower, the biotechnology sector is likely to grow about three times to touch $5 billion by 2009-10.

Our Bioinformatics research amalgamates the need of the industry and would meet the ever-increasing industrial demand for Bioinformatics professionals with industry-oriented research. The program prepares individuals both as bio-programmers and also as life science researchers trained with expertise in computational biology, information technology, molecular and protein biology, statistics and Bioinformatics.

The Biotechnology research focus is developing biotech innovations using molecular tools for bio-remediation of pesticides, innovative rural energy generation, reducing pollution at source in the industrial sector, particularly the pulp and paper units and biomass enhancement & soil reclamation due to microbial interventions.
