Prof PV Indiresan
Former Director, IIT Madras
Dr. P V Indiresan was educated in Presidency College, Madras, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and at the University Of Birmingham, UK. He started his career at the University of Roorkee and then joined IIT Delhi. Prof. P V Indiresan served as the Director of IIT-Madras for Twenty years from 1978 till his retirement in 1998. He is considered as the Best Ever Director the Institute had. Currently he is serving the Planning Commission at New Delhi He has been President of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, and of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
Prof. Indiresan was twice awarded the highest prize of the Inventions Promotion Board, by the Government of India. He has also been conferred the Padma Bhushan by the President of India. He has the rare honour of being made an Honorary Member by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA.
Prof. Indiresan is a prolific writer on societal, economic and development issues. He is also a regular columnist with national dailies like Business Line, The Hindu and The Indian Express. He has also written a book “Managing Development: Geographical Socialism, Decentralization and Urban Replication”.
