The month of July and the early August was the time to receive all the batches with warm welcome. The new batches of NU MBA, M. Tech. GIS and B. Tech. arrived on campus with great enthusiasm and passion to learn. The classes of all the courses have commenced with the same fervour to satisfy students’ desire to learn. The Induction or Orientation of all the new batches has witnessed indoctrination of NU’s four Core Principles- Industry-linked, Technology-based, Research-driven and Seamless. B. Tech. Induction Programme was a kind of great carnival at NU, comprised of- Lectures, Panel Discussions, Sports, Recreational Activities and what not. The Principle of Seamlessness was observed as the students of senior batches were assisting the new-comers in a very friendly manner and also, the perfect blend was achieved between the Academics, Sports and Leisure Interests. NU takes immense pleasure in welcoming the new students!

“Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration!”- Rightly said by the great Thomas Edison. Edison, the man who invented the first light bulb, after trying thousand ways by which a bulb cannot be made! It’s simply amazing the way he had put the secret of his phenomenal success in just one statement. On 27th July 2012, we, the new B. Tech. 2012-16 batch had the privilege to meet and interact with Mr. Rajendra Pawar, the founder of NU, at the amphitheater. The session was amazing. Along with indulging us into deep self-introspection, he shared with us the four pillars of his success.
Inspiration and Aspiration, as he called, are the two emotional and imaginative pillars to stimulate ideas, and Respiration and Perspiration are the pillars to lay the foundation of ideas, dreams and vision. The session was not in the form of lecture, but more of a student-mentor interaction. Early evening, the very same day, Mr. Rajendra Pawar had given us a little homework on ‘how to spare time for ourselves in our hectic schedule’; to ask our mind and soul ‘what is my aim in life?’ and ‘what is the biggest challenge I am facing in my way to the goal?’ These two questions lingered in my mind the whole evening, about what I want and why I am not working or moving forward towards my goal. Out of these two questions, I got an answer for the first one, but I was clueless about the later. Is it the mismanagement of my time, lack of focus, lack of skill or maybe my stars are not in the right position? However, I finally got an answer to my second question by the end of our interactive session with Mr. Rajendra Pawar. After the session, I realized that I have Inspiration and Aspiration, but pillars of Respiration and Perspiration are missing in my ‘under construction’ building of success! With the end of the little amazing interaction with Sir, I finally, got an answer to my question, which the reason or one of the reasons for my previous failures. That evening I left amphitheater with not blaming my bad luck or the super good luck of other people for my failures. Indeed, I realized that it was not the luck that mattered, but time management and hard work necessary to implement Inspiration and Aspiration. Ashima Goel |

Community Connect Programme- An Unique Bond between the Mentor and the Mentee The Community Connect Programme, an integral part of B. Tech. Course is indeed a unique programme which helps the students to deal with a challenging situation. As a part of this programme, the students, given the responsibility confront an alien environment- from urban to rural area. In fact, the basic objective is to assist the process of helping the students in their all-round development of personality well rooted in the reality of the Indian environment. A sincere effort to attain this objective has been made through this ‘Community Connect Programme’ which is a part of B. Tech. Course. As a part of this programme, NU students are taken to the different schools where they meet the students of different schools, classes and streams. Each Mentor (NU student) is allotted a Mentee (a school student), whose responsibility he takes over with full confidence. In fact, the Mentor seems determined to attain his goal which is not only imparting knowledge, but also to gain his confidence and make him comfortable with the mentee. Not only that the Mentor desires to widen his outlook and induce him to have a practical and a positive approach to the subject concerned. The two meet, right from the beginning, with determination reflected in their eyes to overcome all hazards and get set to attain their basic goal. Well set, they both- the Mentor and the Mentee- go ahead to attain their target. In this process of give and take, the Mentor realizes the problems of education at the grass root level, an understanding which not only helps him to handle the situation well, but also inspires him to try to make an effort to work for their betterment. With an analysis of the problems, he goes ahead with a definite programme to help his Mentee, inculcating in him/her the qualities like patience, sensitivity, curiosity, etc. The Mentor not only imparts knowledge to his Mentee, but also helps him to shape and mould his personality, develop in him a sense of awareness towards his surrounding and environment and also inculcate in him/her the habit of keeping the surroundings and environment clean by giving up the use of things such as polythene bags. In the process of generating awareness, the Mentor tries to attain another objective, i.e. inducing the teachers, the students as well as other members of the community at large to make use of the modern technology and to assist in developing a scientific way of thinking. This indeed is the urgent necessity of the hour. In our present day times, education and use of the modern technology is a great need. The sooner the students learn to make use of it, the better it is. Hence, if our students can make a little effort in the direction of generating awareness to this effect, it indeed will be a great contribution to the society at large. On the whole this unique programme of ‘Community Connect’ is a big leap towards the betterment of the society at large. |
