New Delhi, May 11, 2009: NIIT University (www.niituniversity.in), today created a distinctive platform for engineering aspirants to interact with Industry Stalwarts, Accomplished Academicians and Research experts to help them carve a successful career in engineering in these uncertain times. Various issues pertaining to career in engineering were addressed in the seminar on ENGINEERING: Building Great Careers in Turbulent Times at the IIT Delhi campus today.

Dedicated towards building great careers and ensuring exceptional job opportunities for all its students, NIIT University held a discussion forum- between accomplished academicians, successful industry leaders and engineering aspirants. The distinguished panel comprised Prof P V Indiresan, Former Director, IIT Chennai; Prof R C Malhotra, Former Director, IIT Kanpur; Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM; Dr. Ravi Kothari, Research Lab, IBM India; Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman NIIT; Prof M P Kapoor, Founding Vice Chancellor, NIIT University. The seminar included Q & A sessions where aspiring students asked industry and career related questions that concern them to the distinguished panel.

Speaking on this occasion Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Chairman, NIIT and Pro-Chancellor NIIT University remarked, “The global economy is passing through a challenging phase. Students need to start thinking long term for the right career which stays relevant. NIIT University is designed to shape talent which fulfills the need of tomorrow’s Knowledge Economy.“

A recent Nasscom-McKinsey Perspective 2020 report says that the Indian IT industry is expected to grow more than three times and reach $225bn by 2020. Today alone the industry remains a net hirer with direct employment at 2.23 Million and indirect job creation estimated at 8 million. This is estimated to increase to 30 Million job opportunities by 2020. India has the potential of emerging as one of the top three global IT innovation hubs in the near future, provided it focuses on value creation today.

The necessary compliance report has been filed with the authorities of the Government of Rajasthan after addressing all requirements stipulated in the aforesaid LOI. The first admissions cycle for PhD, MTech and BTech programs is now ready to begin for the academic year 2009-10, on receiving Government notification.
