I. About University Recognition
1. Is NIIT University a recognised university?
NIIT University is planned under the Government of Rajasthan Education (Gr-4) Department Guidelines for the Establishment of Private Universities by separate Act dated 26.07.2007. A Letter of Intent (LOI) has been received from GOR to set up a University. The necessary compliance report has been filed with the authorities of the GOR after addressing all requirements stipulated in the aforesaid LOI. Now that the NIIT University infrastructure is nearing completion, we hope to complete the process of approval before the academic session commences in September 2009. NIIT University will then be formally notified by the Government of Rajasthan (GOR) as a Private University.
2. Is NIIT University governed by the Government or by a Trust?
Sponsored by a not-for-profit Society, NIIT Institute of information Technology, which is created by NIIT Ltd, will be regulated by the GOR and GOI.
Details: NIIT University is sponsored by NIIT Institute of Information Technology, a not-for-profit Society registered under the Societies Act (XXI) of 1860. Once notified as a Private University, it will be regulated by the Government of Rajasthan and by the Central Government. But as any notified university, it will be an autonomous self-governed body which will manage its own academic operations.
3. Is NIIT University AICTE recognised?
No, universities are not recognized by AICTE.
Details: Once recognized by the Government of Rajasthan through gazette notification as a Private University of the State, NIIT University will not require further recognition from any agency. It must, however, follow the norms prescribed by the concerned statutory bodies (e.g. AICTE in case of NU). Further, it may be noted that AICTE does not recognize institutions, it recognizes Programs of Studies.
4. Is NIIT University accredited by AICTE?
AICTE does not accredit institutions/ universities.
Details : National Board of Accreditation (NBA) established by AICTE accredits technical education Programs. Another accreditation body, called National Assessment & Accreditation Council, established by the UGC, accredits universities. NIIT University, like any other newly established university, would be accredited by NAAC within three years of its functioning.
5. Is NIIT University covered under the UGC Act?
Yes. All State Universities are covered under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act.
6. After completion of B Tech from NU, will any public university in India or recognized foreign university accept me for the Masters program?
Yes. As a recognized university, NIIT University will belong to the community of universities in the world.
7. Are you a Deemed university?
NIIT University is not a Deemed university. It is a University planned under the Government of Rajasthan Education Department Guidelines for the Establishment of Private Universities by separate Act dated 26.07.2007. The necessary compliance report has been filed with the Government of Rajasthan after addressing all requirements stipulated in the Letter of Intent. The academic session of the University is expected to commence, post due approval, in September 2009.
II.About Admission Process
8. As a State University in Rajasthan, why does NU not consider the State’s CET score for the purpose of the admission to B Tech?
NU makes admissions on an All-India basis. Therefore, only national level examinations have been given a due weightage in the admission process.
9. Am I eligible to apply for the BTech program without appearing for JEE or AIEEE?
As per the admission policy of NU, you are not eligible to apply for BTech program if you have not appeared in either JEE or AIEEE.
10. If I am currently studying in another BTech college and have completed 1-2 years, can I join NU in the 2nd/3rd year?
There is no facility for transferring credits into NIIT University at this time.
11. Is there any minimum JEE or AIEEE cut-off required for selection to the Merit List?
The selection process is not based only on the JEE or AIEEE scores. It considers the Xth, XIIth, JEE / AIEEE scores and a candidate’s performance in the interview conducted by the University. The cut-off will be based on an aggregate score.
12. If the candidate has less than 60 % say, 59 %, in just one examination, and otherwise has excellent academic record, would NU consider his/her candidature
No.
Details: Credibility of admission process depends upon following in full spirit, what is publicly stated as policy. NIIT University will scrupulously follow the specified eligibility criteria for admission.
13. No University to the best of our knowledge, gives weightage to the marks obtained in Class 10 examination. What is the purpose of considering “past” performance? It may give an unfair advantage to somebody who has scored very high in Class 10, but got only 60 % in 10+2.
There are institutions which give due weightage to performance in a Class 10 examination. The purpose of considering multiple performances is to make sure that the candidate being considered for admission is “consistently” good. Good performance in one examination with mediocre performance in others will automatically bring down her/his aggregate score and consequently, her/his position in the Merit List.
14. What is the procedure for students who have done 10th from India and 12th from abroad. How will NU consider the grade point scores?
NIIT University is certainly open to students who have done their 12th from a recognized system abroad. Yes, there is the issue of conversion of grade point scores to the percentage marks system acceptable in our environment. We will do this by converting grade point scores to percentage marks by multiplying the grade point score on a scale of 10 by 9. E.g. Score of 6.8 X 9 = 61.2 %. Please do not hesitate to apply.
15. Can PCB stream students also apply for the BTech?
In the academic year 2009-10, only students from the PCM stream can apply.
16. In BTech admissions, NU gives weightage to JEE/ AIEEE rank, but in MTech admissions, NU does not give any preference to GATE qualified candidates. Why so?
There is no analogy between JEE/AIEEE and GATE. GATE is basically for the purpose of giving scholarships to post-graduate students.
17. NU is giving 50% weightage for AIEEE/JEE. But some of the students do not do so well in these exams. This fact should not stop them from applying to NU.
Certainly, the rank in one examination should not deter a candidate from applying to NIIT University. That is why NIIT University gives only 50 % weightage to JEE/AIEEE score and considers three other performances (Class 10, 10+2 and Interview) for preparing the Merit List.
18. Do you have any quota for SC/ST/OBC or freedom fighters?
NIIT University does not have reservation of seats in the year 2009-10.
19. Why is there so much time gap between merit list and start of session?
Yes there is a gap. Since the NIIT University Campus is under development this year, it was not possible to schedule an early start of the semester. From next year onwards, the academic calendar of NU will be aligned with that of other premier institutions in the country.
20. Will there be any Daily Allowance /Travel Allowance for appearing in the interview?
Selected candidates will have to appear in the interview at their own cost.
21. Who should one contact if there is a question regarding the application form status?
For all admission-related queries, please send an email to admissions@niituniversity.in
22. I have not qualified in the JEE but I have an AIEEE rank. Am I eligible for admission to the BTech Program of NIIT University?
Students who are not in the Merit List or Extended Merit List (EML) of JEE, will be considered on the basis of their AIEEE rank.
23. I have taken the JEE examination. I am in the EML. Am I eligible to apply?
Yes, you are eligible to apply.
24. I have done my Class XII from NIOS. Am I eligible to apply for the BTech of NIIT University?
Yes, you are eligible. NIOS is a recognized Board for Class X and Class XII, as any other recognized Board.
25. I have completed my Class XII in the year 2008. I have taken AIEEE examination this year. Am I eligible to apply for the BTech Program of NIIT University?
Yes, you are eligible.
26. Will you consider my AIEEE State rank or all-India rank?
We will consider the all-India rank.
27. In Class XII, will you consider PCM marks or aggregate?
We will consider the aggregate.
28. Where will be an Interview for BTech admission? Will it be at my home town or at the University Campus?
Interviews will not be conducted at the University Campus. It will be conducted either at your home town, if there are adequate number of applicants from the place, or it will be conducted at the nearest Metro city. In any case, you will be informed at least 4 day before the date of the interview, about the place and modality.
