NIIT University addresses Engineering aspirants at Doon Public School, Paschim Vihar on exciting career opportunities in Engineering

New Delhi, June 01, 2009: NIIT University (www.niituniversity.in), today created a distinctive platform for engineering aspirants by organizing a seminar on ENGINEERING: Building Great Careers at Doon Public School, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi. Key issues pertaining to a career in engineering were addressed during the seminar. NIIT University, a not-for-profit organization sponsored by NIIT, is dedicated towards building great careers and ensuring exceptional job opportunities for all its students.

NIIT University plans to organize a series of seminars on ENGINEERING: Building Great Careers across various educational institutions in Delhi and in North India. The first of the series organized at IIT Delhi on May 11, 2009 which saw industry, academia and research experts come together on the same platform, had received tremendous response from engineering aspirants. To help students who are at the threshold of making career-related decisions, NIIT University is now taking these seminars to schools, to create awareness for building a successful career in Engineering.

The seminar at Doon School, was addressed by Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Pro-Chancellor, NIIT University and Chairman, NIIT Ltd, and Prof M P Kapoor, Founding Vice Chancellor, NIIT University and Mr. N. V. Sarat Chandran, Manager, Doon Public School. Recorded messages of Prof P V Indiresan, Former Director, IIT Chennai, Prof R C Malhotra, Former Director, IIT Kanpur, Mr. Som Mittal, President, NASSCOM, and Dr. Ravi Kothari, Research Lab, IBM India, were also conveyed during the event.

Speaking on this occasion Mr. Rajendra S Pawar, Pro-Chancellor NIIT University and Chairman, NIIT said, “The global economy is passing through a challenging phase. Students need to start thinking long term for the right career which stays relevant. NIIT University is designed to shape talent which fulfills the need of tomorrow’s Knowledge Economy.”

A recent Nasscom-McKinsey Perspective 2020 report says that the Indian IT industry is expected to grow more than three times and reach $225bn by 2020. Today alone the industry remains a net hirer with direct employment at 2.23 Million and indirect job creation estimated at 8 million. This is estimated to increase to 30 Million job opportunities by 2020. India has the potential of emerging as one of the top three global IT innovation hubs in the near future, provided it focuses on value creation today.

Stressing on the need to hone Engineering talent, Mr. Rajendra S Pawar said that the promising future in technology space can be leveraged only by understanding various career options in the context of wider economic situation. Prof M P Kapoor said that it is important to clarify all doubts of students about different academic and professional aspects in building a career in engineering, as the profession is all about quality of life and quality of living. The discussion was followed by a Q & A session where aspiring students put forth career-related questions to the distinguished panel.

Aligned to industry needs through customized curriculum, NIIT University offers BTech Programs in Computer Science & Engineering, MTech Programs in Computer Science & Engineering and Educational Technology and PhD programs in Computer Science & Engineering, Educational Technology and Bioinformatics & Biotechnology, designed to meet the needs of emerging areas of Knowledge Society.
